- Neversoft has dropped online play from the PS3 version of Tony Hawk’s Project 8 because (I’m paraphrasing): “Sony can’t get its act together”.
- A followup analysis from SIG asserting that game ratings (usually) don’t significantly influence sales.
- NPD says that most “hardcore” gamers are between the ages of six to 17, not 18 to 34,
- Two interesting articles from Jeff Tunnell:
- XNA Game Studio Express Doubters Get It Wrong — an affirmation of XGSE and statement in favor of democratized game development.
- How Much Money Can Your XBox360 Live Arcade Game Make? — uses publicly-available information to arrive at an estimate. I can’t comment on the accuracy (partially because I haven’t even started at XLA yet, so what do I know?) but the article seems reasonable. As Jeff notes, the numbers will change for the better as more 360s sell. Not sure I’d completely agree with his assumptions about inevitably skyrocketing dev budgets. Also, an interesting link to The Numbers Behind Live Arcade.
